Medical Interpreter/Translator (English/Espanol)

Become a Licensed California Medical Interpreter

Medical Interpreters are in demand for hospitals, clinics, insurance companies and for government services. This course will give students the requisite 40 hours of instruction and preparation to pas either the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) or the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI), as well as help students prepare for oral examinations.  More than just getting a license, our veteran instructor, Isaias Saldana, will help students to practice and prepare for a successful career!

Beginning students enroll in a 1-day intensive introductory course after a free Intro Workshop and Skills Assessment.  After this, students are welcome to take and continue in our ongoing workshops until they are prepared for the licensing exams, or just to keep up on their vocabulary and continually evolving medical terminology.

NOTE: This program requires capability in both English and Spanish and some familiarity with Medical Terminology in either language.  Students who do not excel in both languages (and Medical Terminology) should expect a greater number of total class hours for mastery of the subject matter.

FREE Intro Workshop; class fee of $75 for the Beginner Intensive; $150 for 6-week interactive Clinics.  Students enrolling in "Medical Interpretetation/Translation Program Series" receive Intro Workshop, Beginner Intensive and 6-week Clinic for $200 total.

Students need to be proficient and preferably, literate in both English and Spanish, and some familiarity with Medical Terminology will be helpful.  Students not possessing these skills may still enroll, but should plan on a greater number of 6-week Clinic enrollments to gain the skills, practice and vocabulary necessary to pass the licensing examinations and, especially to be an effective Interpreter.  A skills assessment will be given during the Free Intro Workshop to help the instructor better understand the educational needs of new students.
